Handel was already established in London as a renowned composer when he was given the Scripture texts by librettist Charles Jennens. Working at a furious pace, Handel set the texts to music in just three weeks and the oratorio “Messiah” was born, premiering in Dublin during the Easter season to great acclaim. “Messiah” continues to be a favourite with audiences today.
